Marinas and boardwalks are key areas where anti-slip decking is needed for health and safety reasons. The large amount of public footfall and close proximity to water means that any surfaces are at risk of being wet and, of course potentially cause further issues should slips, trips and falls take place.
DeckWright were contacted by Arnold Laver in Milton Keynes to provide 45mmx145mm anti-slip decking for Milton Keynes Marina as the jetties were due for a much needed upgrade. As part of the DeckWright service we were able to offer three custom upgrades to the order. Offering our cross-cutting service as each of the decking boards needed to be the exact same length for each of the jetties, cross cutting allowed for faster installation on site. Another upgrade was treatment of the timber decking. We supplied full UC4 treatment for the project due to the specification close to the proximity to water. This provides a very durable decking board built to last. The final upgrade that the customer took advantage of was DeckWright’s haulage. Utilising our haulage is hugely beneficial as the price is greatly reduced on orders coming directly from our decking factory.
The current decking used on the marina was a combination of solid, now weathered, timber and stapled chicken wire. The use of chicken wire is extremely dangerous due to the steel wire mesh being subject to slight stretching and where meshes meet, the ends can often lift causing an increased slipping hazard, rendering the whole thing pointless.
The contractor had some great feedback on the ease of installation of the boards and quality of the boards themselves.
